Setting Your Business Goals
|
Goal Setting for your Geelong Business
If you want to be successful, one of the most important steps is setting goals. If you just work to get things done, you end up going through the motions with no real purpose or drive. Setting goals gives you something to strive for, and skyrockets your chances of actually being successful, no matter what you set out to do.
To make the most out of setting your goals, there are a few rules to always follow:
Aim High:
While it may seem logical to set goals you know you can reach, that's really not going to make you any more successful than what you are now. To be able to achieve, you need to reach for something just beyond your grasp. Something that will motivate you to do more. Otherwise you'll just end up where you started.
Be Realistic:
At first glance, this seems to be totally opposite from the last tip. The problem with aiming high is that, if you constantly set goals you can't reach, you're going to fail over and over again. If you keep failing, you're eventually going to give up with goal setting and settle for less than you're capable of achieving.
If your goals are unrealistic, you also run the risk of putting yourself in danger. If you are 100% set on reaching a goal that is simply out of reach, you're going to raise your stress levels. High stress levels can keep you from getting sleep, affect your emotional and mental health, and increase your risk of all kinds of diseases and illnesses.
Make A Plan:
Having a goal is great, but you also need to know how to get to your goal. Otherwise you'll end up getting sidetracked with things that distract you from your goals. Once you set your goals, make a plan of exactly how to get there. Most importantly, after you make your plan, follow through. To keep yourself on track, check your plan every so often. This will not only help you make sure you're following the plan, but will also give you a chance to revise your plan if it's no longer the best course of action.
Tell Someone:
Having your goals in mind is great, but if you get distracted or reach a setback, you only really have yourself to be accountable to, and you only have yourself to provide you with encouragement. If you tell someone, they can help remind you of what you're working for and push you to keep going. Make sure this is someone you trust, so you don't worry about being embarrassed by what you really want. Ideally this will be your Business Mentor and Coach as they are trained to be non-judgemental.
Keep Your Objectives Top of Mind:
When running a business, it's easy to get caught up in the day to day and forget about your ultimate goals. That's why it's good to make sure you have reminders in your office of what you're working for. If you're working to provide a better life for your family, keep pictures of your family succeeding. Maybe you have an idol that you want to be like. Post clippings of them and their various successes around the office. These will help keep you focused on your goals and motivated to do the job at hand. Our quarterly Action Plan with its Objectives on Track system will ensure that you achieve and thrive in 2013.
One key in being successful is knowing that even if you fail, you can build and learn from what you did wrong. If you set a goal and fail to meet it, don't give up. Keep trying to reach for the stars.
Always, Always Remember to Make your Goals SMART:
SMART stands for -
S - Specific & Significant
M - measurable & Meaningful
A - Action Orientated & Achievable
R - Rewarding & Relevant
T - Timely & Timelined
Our Action Planning Sessions will help you to get more from your business in 2013. Currently I have 5 sessions remaining for January - if you want to make 2013 your best year in business call me now on 0419 237 830 and secure your session.

Design Effective B2B Lead Nurturing
|
Design an Effective B2B Lead Nurturing
In
our previous article ‘Effective B2B Lead Nurturing' (below) we identified that
consistency was essential to our nurturing efforts and that a common fallacy in
marketing to your B2B customers and prospects was to use a one size fits all
approach.
The
question that arises is how do we design our nurturing program? After all we want to
have different programs for leads, prospects and customers; these need to be
segmented by industry and activity level. A major area that concerns most B2B
marketers is the frequency of our contact with the lead, prospect or customer
and the type of contact.
As
a first stage ask yourself these questions:
Customer preference - How often do they want to be contacted?
Begin by asking the customer how much he/she
wants to be contacted. "Mr. Customer, if we don't have any projects going
on, how often would you like to hear from me?"
How important is this account to you and your business? Is this a
major or minor account?
If this account is your largest, most
important account, you will spend more time reaching out to and communicating
with that account, at the same time, you will need to be aware of the clients
personality type; a type A personality will be extremely irritated by too many
in-person visits.
Do you currently have a project underway with this customer?
You will probably be in touch on a weekly
basis, if it is a prospect you may look at the 3 -2 -1 method (3 times in the 1st
month, 2 in the second and 1 in the 3rd; repeat if purchase decision
is not made)
What is the activity level of this account? Do you sell to the
customer on a regular basis or is the sale infrequent but of high value?
A significant account may deserve a monthly
personal visit, others may be quarterly or bi-monthly.
Most importantly examine how you are contacting the customer.
You could be calling in person quarterly,
physical mail monthly, e-mail weekly and facsimile periodically plus you should
consider postcards, newsletters, press releases and items of interest. Above
all focus on the value you
bring to the client.

Effective B2B Lead Nurturing
|
Effective B2B Lead Nurturing
If
you don't nurture your prospects, leads and existing customers you will
definitely lose both revenue opportunities and customers.
So
what is nurturing?
The
process of nurturing is not a sales process. Yes, I know you are thinking; but
we're doing this to generate sales! Nurturing is more to establish your
credentials, create trust and through a process of informational / educational
marketing create a bond between your customers and yourself.
Your
aim through the nurturing process is to keep yourself top of mind with your
customers and to create an ‘imputed' value to your solutions to their problems.
Consider this - 66% of buyers indicate that "consistent and relevant
communication provided by both sales and marketing organizations" is a key
influence in choosing a solution provider. (Source: Genius.com/DemandGen
Report)
Consistent communication is the
key to effective lead nurturing - this brings into play the usual question of
how often should you contact prospects, leads and customers?
Many sales organisations
struggle with this question, you know you need to have sufficient contact to
ensure that they don't forget you, but you don't want to annoy them by turning
into their personal stalker.
Firstly, one size does not fit
all...ever. So you need to have different nurturing programs for the different
classes of leads; at the very minimum you should have unique and individual
programs for:
- Leads
- businesses that have the potential to become your customer.
- Prospects
- businesses that in the sales pipeline.
- Customers
- businesses that already deal with you.
In addition you should also
segment your nurturing program by industry, activity level / potential activity
level (can be by revenue size or by volume) and you can also have a specific
program for those prospects that you are trying to win from your competition.

7 Questions to Ask Yourself at the Start of the Year
|
Do you want to have your best year ever in 2012?
Here are 7 questions to ask yourself so you can set yourself up to have an AWESOME 2012!
# 1 - What successes have you achieved in the last year?
What went really well? What did you learn
about your business? What gaps have you identified that you can work on
in the next 90 days?
Even if you didn't achieve everything you wanted to in 2011 there were some highlights - list them down.
# 2 - What difference did these successes make to your business?
We rarely think about WHY these good things happened, examine the why in the context of the difference they made.
# 3 - Let's do more of it, amplify your Successes!
Leverage your successes by applying the same methods to other areas of your business.
# 4 - What areas in your business didn't go quite right last year & why?
Although we don't want to dwell on these you should be able to find at least 3 areas where you have room for improvement.
# 5 - What are you going to do differently this year?
What will you improve on, outsource or
measure better; will you improve your knowledge, test and measure your
marketing campaigns or improve your processes and systems to give
yourself more time?
# 6 - What would it take to make 2012 an awesome 10 out of 10 for you?
Could you you get a 10 for time, a 10 for Money and a 10 for Team and still get a 10 for fun and enjoyment?
# 7 - What could make achieving a 10 out 10 in 2012 faster and easier?
What would shortcut the achievement curve
and get you to where you want to be faster and easier? Perhaps it could
be hiring someone new or making some great connections.
My clients have found that they get the best results working with me when:
- We created their Quarterly plan, made tangible and updated it every 90 days.
- They used me as their Accountability partner and Mentor.
- We created systems for their business to make it effortless.
- They agreed to spend time ON their business, rather than IN their business.
- They were willing to do the work necessary to achieve their goals.
- They didn't lose sight of the 3 Silver Bullet categories - Time - Team - Money when looking at their business.
Are you committed to making your 2012 your best year in business ever?
For a short time I am making available, totally free, the Astute
Quarterly Action Plan Course (normally valued at $97) to help you get
started on making your 2012 totally awesome, get access HERE and you will receive the planning course in your inbox; Click HERE to get the Astute Quarterly Action Plan Course

Be Honest.. Did you operate at your full potential this past year?

But first a little bit of background...
Graduates of the Harvard MBA program are typically outstanding achievers - only 15% of all applicants are admitted. Given this why do 3% of the MBA graduates make 10 times as much as the other 97%?
A survey of graduates found that in answer to a simple question "Have you set clear, written goals for your future and made plans to achieve them?" found that:
- 84% had no specific goals at all
- 13% had goals but they were not committed to paper
- 3% had clear, written goals and plans to accomplish them
10 years later these graduates were interviewed again and the results...
- The 13% of the class who had goals were earning, on average, twice as much as the 84 percent who had no goals at all.
- Even more staggering - the three percent who had clear, written goals were earning, on average, ten times as much as the other 97 percent put together.
(Source: What They Don't Teach You in the Harvard Business School, by Mark McCormack)
Although there has been doubts raised on the validity of this study,
the principals behind the study are confirmed in "Written Goal Study

Astute Business Coaching - The Business Mentor Program
-
Are your business growth challenges getting in the way of building a better company and a better lifestyle?
-
Are you a small business, looking for practical advice from someone in the know?
-
Do you find yourself needing a little extra help to make the most of your enterprise?
Then The Business Mentor Program from Astute Business Coaching is the place for you!
Challenges occur at every stage of business growth, and there is no
need to slow down your progress because of frustration over roadblocks
and other struggles. An expert business mentor who has experienced those
challenges first-hand can help you navigate through them and get back
on course. Use business mentoring to your own strategic advantage.
As your Business Mentor we provide impartial and objective advice,
support and guidance, which can help you to improve your problem-solving
skills and develop leadership skills. You can share ideas and problems
with your mentor and they can act as a sounding board to help you make
decisions with more confidence.
You will benefit from the business mentoring program by:
-
Working with a business mentor with whom you can be completely
candid, someone with whom you can share your feelings and fears without
the concern that you may damage your reputation by revealing these
fears. With friends, colleagues, or other business mentors, you may not
find this to be true.
- Your Business Mentor gives you new perspectives and experiences from
a position of objectivity that frequently is completely outside your
sphere of knowledge and experience. If you have exhausted all your
options and are feeling like there are no other solutions to your
challenges, a business mentor can bring you to a new beginning.
- Your Business mentor provides a sounding board where you can bounce
your ideas and opinions off someone without fear of reprisals; someone
who can reflect back to you how your thoughts and potential actions
impact. Without this perspective, you may never move beyond your present
circumstances, nor can you effectively lead others beyond their
existing limitations.
- The Business Mentor, as a Business Coach is there to challenge you,
to provoke you when necessary and to see that you generate decisions.
With time constraints and so many areas of your business to manage
and operate, it's easy to feel overwhelmed and feel the need to ask for
help along the way. The Business Mentor Program is an affordable program
developed specifically to help those in smaller set ups who want tried
and tested solutions to their business issues.
Frequently we find that clients who are using our E-Learning Marketing System for Small Business use the Business Mentor Program as an invaluable resource to gain more from the E-learning.
The Business Mentor program is tailored specifically to you and your
business; however as a guide many clients find that allocating a 45 - 60
minute session each month together with the e-mail support system gives
them the perfect balance for their business success.

Give Your Business a Tune Up!
7 tips to transform your business in 6 weeks or less
It is the middle of winter in Australia and many businesses face a
lull in activity. In the face of this, the natural tendency is lay low
and chill out. It's more than likely that this is what your competitors
will be doing; which is why this is the best time for you to shift gears
and take advantage of the quieter time.
Here are the 7 things that you can do to gain a competitive advantage over your competitors:
1. Take advantage of quiet times.
Remember those times that you bemoaned your crowded schedule and lack
of free time? And remember all those things you had to place on the
backburner because you lacked the time to attend to them? Take advantage
of downtime by doing those things you may not have had time for before:
networking, de-cluttering your office, researching industry trends,
reorganizing your files, following-up with prospective clients, etc.
2. Systemise your business.
We all have frustration in areas of our business, often these are
activities that you don't really enjoy or have the skills to do as
effectively as the activity should be done, or activities where staff
always have ‘issues' in performing the activity. These sources of
frustration are the very best place to hone in on first. Apply our 5
step process - identification, outcome, cause, system, implement and
communicate. Start by identifying the top three activities that cause
the greatest frustration on a consistent basis and apply the process.
3. Prepare your business for an influx of new clients.
Think positively and prepare your business for what might result in an
influx of new clients for you. As you market more aggressively (see six
below), build your staff, and take advantage of downtime, you'll find
that your client roster will begin to grow. So use this time to prepare
yourself by ensuring that you have the resources necessary and processes
in place that will enable you to manage all that business more
efficiently.
4. Cut expenses. Of course it's a good idea! Take a
look at your budget and what you have spent for the year and see if
there's anything you can cut or reduce. While you may not have much
overhead, you can consider various ways in which you can streamline your
workflow to accomplish more in less time. Your objective should be to
increase efficiency while cutting unnecessary expenses.
5. Diversify your products and services. What new
products or services can you add to make your business more appealing to
prospective clients? Are you providing your clients with a full service
offering that meets their needs? Do your clients only by one product or
service when they could be buying more?
6. Practice aggressive marketing techniques. Chances
are your competitors are currently trying to maintain their activity or
even reduce activity rather than grow activity. Put in place some
aggressive marketing tactics to stimulate your client base into action -
importantly don't forget to test and measure the results. When you
market like there's no tomorrow, you inspire more confidence in current
clients who see your efforts as evidence that your business is thriving.
7. Expand your mind. Start learning more about how to grow your business with E-learning from astutemarketingacademy.com - this
online resource provides you with the resources to take your business
to another level. It's on the WWW! So it doesn't matter whether you're a
small business is in Warnambool, Mudgee, Melbourne, Brisbane or Sydney
these valuable resources are available for you 24/7.

Geelong Business Coach
|
Business Coaching Definition
Business coaching is the process of engaging in regular,
structured conversation with a "client": an individual or team who is
within a business, profit or nonprofit organization, institution or
government and who is the recipient of business coaching. The goal is to
enhance the client's awareness and behavior so as to achieve business
objectives for both the client and their organization.
Business coaching enables the client to understand their role in
achieving business success, and to enhance that role in ways that are
measurable and sustainable.
The coaching process may take different forms (e.g., individual or
team coaching) and involve different goals (e.g., problem solving,
career and succession planning, leadership/executive development,
creation of high-performing teams), but throughout there is a clear
focus on the business objectives of both the client and the
organization.
It is the dual focus is what distinguishes business coaching from
other types of coaching. The business coach helps the client discover
how changing or accommodating personal characteristics and perspectives
can affect both personal and business processes.
Successful coaching helps the client achieve agreed-upon business
outcomes as an individual or team within the context of an organization.
Business coaching establishes an atmosphere of mutual trust, respect,
safety, challenge and accountability to motivate both the client and the
coach. To that end, the business coach must conduct an ethical and
competent practice, based on appropriate professional experience,
business knowledge and an understanding of individual and organizational
change.
The role of a Business Coach is to coach business owners to through
guidance, support, accountability and encouragement; helping owners of
small and medium sized businesses with their sales, marketing,
management, team building and so much more, and like a sports coach, the
Business Coach will make you focus on the game.

Fit for Life - Fit for Business
|
Be Fit for Life - Be Fit For Business!
We invest significant hours of our time in keeping healthy and fit. We go to gymnasiums, pump iron, run on treadmills, take spinning and Zumba classes. Others amongst us do fun runs, tai chi, triathlons or yoga. People everywhere are exercising to either get fit, lose weight or prepare for an event; embedded in these efforts is an increasing concern about our sedentary habits, health issues and general well being.
On television we are seeing an epidemic of advertisements for vibrating platforms, ab king pro, cardio twister and the good old standby the treadmill. It is a huge industry built on people wanting to feel better about themselves, their health and their capability.
When we utilise personal trainers and facilities like Fernwood we are investing in ourselves and we have a self realisation that being involved in a program is much better than trying to do it all on one's own. Our coach keeps us going when we hit the wall they cajole us to do that little bit more each time so we can achieve peak performance in our chosen objective.
Do we apply the same intensity and commitment to our business life?
I would suggest not. To be fit for business we need to apply ourselves with the same level of intensity and commitment that we apply to our health.
We need to work on our businesses, not in our businesses, we must strive to achieve higher and higher standards and goals and not be satisfied with the status quo.
So to be fit for business here are 6 areas to focus on to get your business (and you) Fit for Business!
Be Fit 1 - Business Plan: So many businesses have no plan for what they want to achieve in their business. Alice in Wonderland summarises it quite well:
Alice: Would you tell me, please, which way I ought to go from here?
The Cat: That depends a good deal on where you want to get to.
Alice: I don't much care where.
The Cat: Then it doesn't matter which way you go.
In short, if you don't really care where you will finish, don't worry about having a plan, or roadmap for your business.
If you do want to take your business to a specific point, whether it be profitability, sales growth or expansion you should have a plan such as our 2 page mini plan that outlines the key milestones you need to reach to achieve your goals.
Be Fit 2 - Cash Flow: You need to know where the cash that fuels your business is coming in from and going out to and how much is staying in the business to help it grow. Once you know this you can then plan for the next months to ensure that your business will be stable; action steps will be created to make sure you achieve your cash flow objectives.
Be Fit 3 - Bank Reconciliation: Many businesses don't understand the importance of reconciling what has gone through their bank accounts. Until you have done this you cannot be sure about any of your business numbers. You should also, particularly if you outsource this task each month, make sure you examine the reconciliation and compare it to the previous reconciliation.
Be Fit 4 - Profit Reports: Your profit statement should be prepared each month, no matter what size business you have. Many businesses leave it to their tax specialist when their tax is calculated; this could be many months after the event. You need to know what your profit is now so that you can take actions to change what's not working and ramp up what is working.
Be Fit 5 - Break Even Point: You must know your breakeven point. When in a month do you start making a profit? How many coffees does the local coffee shop have to sell to start making money, when during the week, month, quarter does this happen? Business Mentoring Program
Your business is going well, profit is good, customers want your products. In short, life is good. You’re feeling successful and are reaping the rewards. Why do you need a Business Mentor? You’re already successful, what can a business mentor do that would help your business achieve even greater success?
Does this sound like you and your business? What happens if something changes? A key staff member leaves, a competitor opens across the road from you, or the market shifts? Economies, people and markets can’t always be predicted, and it’s better to be prepared for anything. Business mentors provide more than an organised plan. Good business mentors help you act on that plan to achieve results.
Here’s what a good Business Mentor will do for you:
- Your Business Mentor will show you how to create and organise your goals and achieve those goals with plans, programs and business solutions that work.
- Your Business Mentor will help you keep focussed on the important issues, and work through any road blocks.
- Your Business Mentor will make you look into the future to build the right set of goals and visions for your company, and the strategies needed to get there.
- Your Business Mentor is your accountability partner, a sounding board that will always give you objective, independent advice.
- Your Business Mentor will work with you to develop strategies for the short term and the long term to develop build tactics in all aspects of your business – sales, marketing, advertising, profit growth, business systems, time management and team building – to turn your business from so-so to a successful business.
These are only a few reasons why a Business Mentor can make a difference for you and your business. Ask yourself – can I risk not partnering with a Business Mentor?
A typical client will be provided with a combination of both Coaching and Mentoring by advising and making suggestions based on our experience and importantly by acting as a sounding board and providing an objective viewpoint, Business Coaching by providing the instruction, training and accountability for you to achieve your success goals with tools, resources and tactics that are relevant to your business.
